Homelessness isn’t always what we picture. It’s not just someone sleeping on a bench or living under a bridge. It could be a family quietly staying in their car. A mother and her children crashing on a friend’s couch. A father doing his best to keep his kids safe in a tent tucked behind a parking lot.
At Nicole Williams Collective, we believe in amplifying the voices of those creating real solutions to real problems. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight and support the work Family Promise of Gwinnett, to help drive awareness and advocacy.
A Local Solution with Lasting Impact
Right now, more people are experiencing homelessness than ever before, and the burden disproportionately falls on families—especially those with children. It’s an issue that cuts across income, race, and geography.
Safe, stable housing is not a luxury—it’s the foundation for mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It’s what allows a parent to hold a job, for a child to go to school, and for a family to thrive. But when housing becomes unaffordable or unattainable, everything else unravels.
For over 20 years, Family Promise of Gwinnett has been addressing housing insecurity not as a crisis, but as a solvable problem—one family at a time.
A nonprofit rooted in community, Family Promise of Gwinnett provides short- and intermediate-term housing, case management, and counseling to families experiencing homelessness, while preserving their dignity and keeping them together.
Since its inception, the organization has served over 1,800 individuals across more than 500 families, helping them regain housing, stability, and hope.
Programs That Change Lives Powered by Community
At the heart of Family Promise’s impact is the Stepping Stones program, a structured 30 to 90-day shelter solution offered at Promise Haven, where families are given a safe place to stay, supported by a network of compassionate staff and volunteers.
While housed at Promise Haven, families work through a step-by-step plan designed to help them: earn income, save money, build life skills, and secure permanent housing. During the day, families use the organization’s Day Center, a hub for essential services.
Their holistic approach allows Family Promise of Gwinnett to intervene before families reach a crisis point and support them long after they leave the shelter, through stabilization and prevention programs.
What makes Family Promise truly special is its community-based model. The organization doesn’t operate in a silo—it thrives through partnerships with local faith congregations, volunteers, and service providers who offer everything from hot meals and transportation to job coaching and encouragement.

Take the Challenge: #NightWithoutABed
This month, Family Promise of Gwinnett is hosting the Night Without a Bed Campaign (August 1–31) to raise awareness for the families and children who go to sleep each night without the comfort and security of a permanent home.
We’re inviting you to support Family Promise of Gwinnett by spending one night without a bed—on the floor, on the couch, or even in your car—to show solidarity and help spark real change.
Will you accept the challenge?
One night without a bed can help give a family and child the comfort of one. By participating, you’re not just raising awareness—you’re contributing to long-term, community-led solutions that help families thrive.

Family Promise of Gwinnett reminds us that homelessness isn’t just a housing issue—it’s a community issue.
When we come together to support organizations doing the work on the ground, we don’t just change individual lives—we change the system.
This month—and every month—we encourage you to learn more, give what you can, and use your voice to help end family homelessness in our communities.
Because everyone deserves the security of a place to call home. And together, we can make that possible—one family at a time.
