Whether your hair is curly or straight, or if it’s long or short, ‘National Love Your Hair Day’ is for you to embrace and celebrate the beauty of your gorgeous stress.

As a woman of color, I grew up with society consistently sending the message that my hair was not the standard of beauty. I saw this evidence on every page of my favorite magazines, on the runways of my favorite designers, in movies, and in commercials. It took me a long time to learn to love my hair, and I want my daughter’s hair story to be different.

This is why I’m teaching my daughter that she is fabulously fearless and that her true beauty lies within. She is learning to look in the mirror and see the queen that she is: that she is smart, beautiful, strong, and bold. I’m teaching her to say “world, this is my hair, and I love it!”

October 10th, is National Love Your Hair Day, a day for all to embrace our locks as a reminder of who we are–a unique form of self-expression and a symbol of the beauty of diversity. To celebrate National Love Your Hair Day, I’ve rounded up some hair care companies that celebrate textured hair.

Hair Care Companies That Celebrate Textured Hair Types

CAROL’S DAUGHTER: Inspiring all women to be beautiful inside & out, since 1993. Carol’s Daughter began in the creator’s kitchen inspired by her passion for fragrance. “I needed a name for my company, so I made a list of everything I was and everything I wanted to be, and I realized the most special thing that I am is Lisa, Carol’s Daughter,” said Lisa Price, the founder of Carol’s Daughter. CURLS: Founded in 2002 by Mahisha Dellinger. Mahisha used her day job to fund her big idea–after having a baby she no longer wanted to use chemicals on her hair. Now CURLS continues to maintain the highest levels of standards for quality ingredients and product dependability. Shop Products

TALIAH WAAJID: For stylist Taliah Waajid, natural hair care is not a trend but a lifestyle. With a reputation for healthy, creative, natural styles Taliah built an empire from helping people love themselves. Shop Products

JANE CARTER: Talk about turning a challenge into a solution. Jane Carter began with a Hair Nourishing Serum, created as a result of a respiratory allergic reaction from ingredients in traditional beauty products the stylist was using on her clients’ hair. Shop Products

EDEN BODYWORKS: The brainchild of Jasmine Lawrence at just the age of 11. Jasmine’s hair was badly damaged and when she couldn’t find products to help, she took to her kitchen and created her own solution. Now Jasmine’s products are nurturing and restoring hair back to health all over the world. Shop Products
