Whether your hair is curly or straight, or if it’s long or short, ‘National Love Your Hair Day’ is for you to embrace and celebrate the beauty of your gorgeous stress.
As a woman of color, I grew up with society consistently sending the message that my hair was not the standard of beauty. I saw this evidence on every page of my favorite magazines, on the runways of my favorite designers, in movies, and in commercials. It took me a long time to learn to love my hair, and I want my daughter’s hair story to be different.
This is why I’m teaching my daughter that she is fabulously fearless and that her true beauty lies within. She is learning to look in the mirror and see the queen that she is: that she is smart, beautiful, strong, and bold. I’m teaching her to say “world, this is my hair, and I love it!”
October 10th, is National Love Your Hair Day, a day for all to embrace our locks as a reminder of who we are–a unique form of self-expression and a symbol of the beauty of diversity. To celebrate National Love Your Hair Day, I’ve rounded up some hair care companies that celebrate textured hair.
