Like many, Edwards’ number one priority when it came to money was finding a way to just get the bills paid. As a child, there were never really any conversations in his household about saving and investing. So as an adult Edward fell into many of the same traps his parents did and he struggled to find his financial footing. One day Edwards’ diabetic father needed surgery and asked for help to cover some of the expenses. But Edward wasn’t able to. Feeling powerless and ashamed, Edward set out to create an actionable, practical system for building wealth. The result, what Williams calls The Wedge™ — a framework for building wealth through insurance, investments, and retirement and estate planning.
In his new book, Wealth Building for Beginners: Your Manual for Taking Control of Your Financial Future, Now, Edward R. Williams details the top three personal obstacles that often stand in the way of building wealth and how to overcome them. Wealth Building for Beginners is an instruction manual for ordinary people that makes financial concepts easy to understand and adaptable for individual situations. The book provides step-by-step instructions for building The Wedge™; and offers ways to sustain and optimize financial habits.
3 Roadblocks Keeping You From Building Wealth
In Wealth Building for Beginners, Edwards covers the three roadblocks which he calls the “poisonous Ps” and offers you strategies and encouragement to take baby steps to overpower procrastination and use that momentum to build wealth.
Perception: Many fall victim to appearances, because they create a false perception of what wealthy people should look like. Pre-conceived and superficial wealth indicators will only set you on a path of frivolous spending and result in a bad money reputation. So don’t find yourself broke trying to keep up with the Jones or sabotage yourself from getting started.
Procrastination: The first thing you need to do if you really want to build wealth, is to start now. Life is always going to be throwing things at you, if it ain’t going to be one thing it’s going to be something else. So fight the urge to not just do things that are easy. Like Edwards so eloquently put sit, “your dream of building wealth is not going to be delivered like an Amazon package.”
Pride: If you’re going to build wealth then there is no way of preventing exposing yourself financially. One of the first steps to a healthy financial journey is to get vulnerable about where you are. Understand that your current situation is not your destiny or self-worth. Too much pride will keep you from walking the road of financial wellness.
