Staying Productive Working From Home as Busy Mom

Working from home has its rewards but it also brings an added layer of challenges.

As a working mom and entrepreneur, I’m no stranger to working from home. However, I know how challenging it can be to stay productive working from home when juggling the demands of your daily job with family and home concerns. I also understand that working from home requires a certain mindset and a certain level of discipline.

The dream of working from home was waking up without an alarm, gingerly going about my day, and wearing loungewear as I perfectly executed the day. But in reality, your digital learner is having a Zoom music class, the sink is filled with dirty dishes, and maintenance is knocking on the door as you are trying to start a very important video call.

Though working from home is richly rewarding and offers a reprieve from long commutes and lost time with family. The truth is, working from home can be overwhelming and especially stressful, particularly for working mamas of young children.

But, it is possible to succeed in the midst of chaos.

4 Tips To Staying Productive Working From Home

Here are four of my strategies on how to stay productive as a busy mom working from home.

Structure and prioritize your days: When working from home it is essential to structure your day so you don’t feel scattered. Plan out your day and create a priority to-do list so you can be more productive and less overwhelmed. Create systems and processes to be more efficient but keep in mind it’s okay not to get it all done — after all, you’re only human.

Develop healthy routines: It is the small habits that truly make a difference. So focus on creating routines that lead to positive behaviors that help to improve your health, wealth, and happiness. Starting your day on a positive note sets the tone and paves the way for successful days.

Designate a dedicated workspace: Though working from home means you have the choice to work for the couch or your bed…It is important to establish an official workspace. Regardless of choice, ensure you have an ergonomic setup with all the supplies and equipment you may need close at hand.

Establish boundaries: While kids aren’t the best respecter of boundaries, laying down a few ground rules will prove fruitful to help guard against well-meaning family and friends. Think about how you can coordinate your schedule with your support circle to help alleviate stress and accommodate work-life balance.

How do you stay motivated as a busy mom working from home?
