Making New York State A Healthier Place For Your Family

Over the years, we over here at NLL HQ have worked diligently to guide and inspire you fabulously fearless women to live your best life—on your own terms. Inspiring you to live a beautiful and empowered life, inside and out. And part of accomplishing this goal is providing you with guidance that helps you make educated decisions about your family and your own self-care.

As parents, we are always on a constant mission to protect, and keep our kids safe and healthy. However, raising a happy and healthy family is more than just a well-balanced meal, good sleeping habits, keeping physically active, and keeping our children safe from ill-intentioned strangers.

Unfortunately, we must also worry about the temptations of addictive behaviors such as cigarette smoking and its indirect effects. And while you may do your best to keep your kids away from smokers or blocking online ads, they still encounter in-store advertisements and billboards on a daily basis. Kids are more likely to start smoking with increased exposure. In fact, the average age of new smokers in New York is 13 years old. According to Tobacco Free New York State, “25,000 adults in New York State die from smoking and 389,000 kids now under 18 and alive in New York will ultimately die prematurely from smoking”.

Tobacco harms both you and your loved ones.

As a mom of a young child who is asthmatic, I’m always concerned about smokers around my child. Besides helping the environment, quitting smoking will benefit you plus help protect your family. For both smokers and non-smokers, tobacco contributes to serious health problems including lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, chronic lung disease, and respiratory issues. Plus, second-hand smoke causes kids [like my daughter] with asthma to have increased and more severe attacks.

Through the “Seen Enough Tobacco” campaign, we all can do our part to make New York State a healthier place to live, work and play. Our kids have seen enough, and it’s time to take action and protect our children from being exposed to tobacco, and reduce smoking among our youth.

Head on over to the Tobacco Free New York State website to help spread awareness about the “Seen Enough Tobacco” campaign, and be sure to sign the pledge against how tobacco companies advertise to our kids.
