How this Triathlete-Mom Turned Two Simple Ingredient into a Swirl of Healthy Nutrition

The founder and CEO of Sepoli shares her journey to entrepreneurship and her advice for others with business ideas.

Worried about her daughter Alisa’s increasing insistence on sweet and sugary meals, Sezin Kutlu needed to get Alisa excited about healthy eating. Sezin also needed to find a replacement for energy gels to benefit her own Ironman triathlon training.

Chocolate to start off every morning is every parent’s nightmare for their child. Like many working moms, Sezin Kutlu knew there had to be a healthier way to spice up breakfast for her daughter. Naturally, Sezin got to thinking about what her typical breakfast used to consist of when she was her daughter’s age and was inspired by the amazing, organic California dates.

Reminiscing about the date and tahini combination that was once her childhood go-to gave Sezin the spark she needed to create Datehini. Datehini is a blend of 100% certified organic Medjool dates and sesame tahini, which comes in three flavors – original, cinnamon, and vanilla. With zero added sugar, non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, soy-free, and vegan, Datehini is perfect for spreading on crepes, toast, dipping apples, and bananas, blended in smoothies, oatmeal, and so much more. Basically, it is something you can feel good about indulging in.

The Datehini swirl of nutrition would become a natural source of sustenance for Sezin during training and competition. Then, she started using the sweet and savory fusion as a replacement for the chocolate spread on Alisa’s favorite crepes. As it turned out, Alisa loved it!

Together, Sezin and Alisa would make batches at a time. But between Alisa’s new favorite breakfast and Sezin’s new favorite training supplement, they couldn’t make enough to keep up. Even family and friends wanted in on the goodness, and Sepoli was born.

By sharing just how nutritious and delicious organic ingredients without artificial additives can be, Sezin Kutlu’s sincere hope is to help other families establish wholesome traditions today that will empower health-conscious generations of tomorrow.
