While cultivating your passion is the X-factor you need to succeed, it is not as simple as it sounds if it’s missing the key ingredients.
We hear it every day, ‘follow your passion’. But research shows that many of us don’t know how to follow our passion. While following your passion is essential, it can be frustrating… Since it’s often dished out without any real advice on how to go about it.
Passion is usually associated with what you enjoy. Then there is also the misconception that we only have one and that passion is fixed. However, passion derives from a Latin term which means to suffer. Therefore, it requires sacrifice and is usually what you care about and aligns with your values and the impact you want to create. If you can turn it into a profitable venture, even better.
Jim Carrey says, “Many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it…”
Following your passion sounds great, but you don’t ‘follow’ passion; you ‘cultivate’ it. Even then, it’s not as simple as it sounds if you miss the key ingredients. You need to love what you do, provide incredible value, be willing to make sacrifices and be capable of becoming good at it.
